Effect of Anticipation on Sport Performance
The SACK lab plans to collaborate with Dr. Luis Aguerrevere in conducting a research study on anticipation and sport performance. Participants will individually play a certain sport (e.g., basketball, tennis) by throwing balls into a hoop or hitting tennis balls across the net. The experimenter will either induce participants in a positive anticipation state ("Most people score very good at this task") or negative anticipation state ("Most people score very bad at this task") and record the scores of the participants.
Measuring Effect of Anticipation using an EEG
Our laboratory plans to use an Electroencephalogram (EEG) to measure the effect of anticipation on brain wave patterns (e.g., Delta wave, Beta wave, etc.). We hope to find a distinguishing difference in brain waves when participants anticipate an emotion compared to experiencing the emotion.
